Why the Fast Track Matters
The Kathmandu-Terai Fast Track (also called the Kathmandu-Nijgadh Expressway) will cut travel time between Kathmandu and the Terai from 5-6 hours to under 2 hours. It passes through 3 districts: Makwanpur, Bara, and Rautahat.
- Length: Approximately 76 km (main expressway)
- Tunnels: 3 major tunnels through Mahabharat hills
- Speed limit: 100-120 km/h (expressway standard)
- Economic impact: Directly connects industrial belt of Bara-Parsa with Kathmandu
- Nijgadh: International airport proposed nearby — aviation-road link
Road Safety Budget
Rs. 2 arba 46 crore for road safety across high-risk sections: traffic signals, highway lane marking, crash barriers, digital speed monitoring, and rehabilitation of accident-prone points.
