Child Nutrition Allowance — Doubled
In 25 districts of Madhesh Province, Karnali Province, and Sudurpaschim Province — Nepal's most food-insecure regions — the child nutrition allowance (for children under 5) is doubled from Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,000 per month. This directly addresses chronic malnutrition in Nepal's most vulnerable districts.
Social Security Reform — "Sakknele Chhodaun"
Budget 2083 launches the "Sakknele Chhodaun" (Let Those Who Can, Give Up) campaign. Citizens above a certain income threshold are encouraged to voluntarily opt out of government social security benefits — freeing resources for the most vulnerable. This is the first such voluntary means-testing campaign in Nepal's budget history.
